Florence is ideally located approximately 60 miles due west of Eugene, Oregon, on the shore of the Pacific Ocean. It is situated along the Siuslaw River and fronts a stretch of magnificent sand dunes. Along Highway 101, it lies midway between Newport to the north and Coos Bay to the south, about 60 miles in either direction. There is an excellent hospital with clinics by visiting specialists, a gem of a library, active performing arts center, casino and progressive movie theater that offers much more than regular films. There are two great golf courses. Multiple local restaurants compete to outdo one another in price and quality. A thriving arts community offers multiple galleries and instruction for the inspired. Fishing and boating opportunities include many lakes dotting the area, the river (undammed) and the ocean for the more adventurous. Our wonderful US Coast Guard is there to help if you find yourself in a fix. The Oregon Dunes Recreational Area is just south of town and extends for 40 miles. All terrain vehicle riding and camping are extremely popular. Whatever you love to do, from photography, flying kites, riding horses, hunting mushrooms, bird watching, crabbing, sand boarding, paddling a canoe, having a picnic or shopping, you can enjoy it here in Florence, or nearby on the spectacular Oregon Coast.
